Congresses

The ESAIC hosts the Euroanaesthesia and Focus Meeting congresses that serve as platforms for cutting-edge science and innovation in the field. These events bring together experts, foster networking, and facilitate knowledge exchange in anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain management, and perioperative medicine. Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

Professional Growth

The ESAIC's mission is to foster and provide exceptional training and educational opportunities. The ESAIC ensures the provision of robust and standardised examination and certification systems to support the professional development of anaesthesiologists and to ensure outstanding future doctors in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care.

Back

Research

The ESAIC aims to advance patient outcomes and contribute to the progress of anaesthesiology and intensive care evidence-based practice through research. The ESAIC Clinical Trial Network (CTN), the Academic Contract Research Organisation (A-CRO), the Research Groups and Grants all contribute to the knowledge and clinical advances in the peri-operative setting.

EU Projects

The ESAIC is actively involved as a consortium member in numerous EU funded projects. Together with healthcare leaders and practitioners, the ESAIC's involvement as an EU project partner is another way that it is improving patient outcomes and ensuring the best care for every patient.

Back

Patient Safety

The ESAIC aims to promote the professional role of anaesthesiologists and intensive care physicians and enhance perioperative patient outcomes by focusing on quality of care and patient safety strategies. The Society is committed to implementing the Helsinki Declaration and leading patient safety projects.

Back

Sustainability

To ESAIC is committed to implementing the Glasgow Declaration and drive initiatives towards greater environmental sustainability across anaesthesiology and intensive care in Europe.

Back

Partnerships

The ESAIC works in collaboration with industry, national societies, and specialist societies to promote advancements in anaesthesia and intensive care. The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

Guidelines

Guidelines play a crucial role in delivering evidence-based recommendations to healthcare professionals. Within the fields of anaesthesia and intensive care, guidelines are instrumental in standardizing clinical practices and enhancing patient outcomes. For many years, the ESAIC has served as a pivotal platform for facilitating continuous advancements, improving care standards and harmonising clinical management practices across Europe.

SIMLAB returns to Euroanaesthesia 2022

**Please note here are some places available for interested delegates for the various SIMLAB sessions. If you would like to attend, please go to the main registration desk to book your place**

The popular SIMLAB sessions have made a successful return to Euroanaesthesia 2022, with a variety of sessions taking place in the High Fidelity Rooms of the North Wing of the Congress Centre. The SIMLABS are testing delegates with a wide range of scenarios including challenging cases in airway management, challenging cases in ICU and trauma; crisis situation in the operating room and how to improve patient safety.

Here SIMLAB co-chair Professor Georges Savoldelli of University Hospitals Geneva, Switzerland, tells us about this year’s sessions.

Q: Hello Georges and how excited are you to be returning to meeting in person and bringing the SIMLAB session back to Euroanaesthesia?

A: We are very happy. Two years without face-to-face workshops at the Euroanaesthesia meeting is a long time. We all had to re-invent our way of teaching and learning during these two years and the innovations and advances have been fantastic.  However, nothing can replace face-to-face meeting and what it brings in terms of human relationships and networking.

Q: What are new elements to SIMLAB that delegates can expect in the 2022 sessions?

A: This year the SIMLAB is still organised with two large rooms, one dedicated to workshops based on simulation with a high-fidelity mannequin and one dedicated to technical and diagnostic procedures related to anaesthesia, pre-operative medicine and intensive care. What is new this year is a more intense collaboration with several scientific subcommittees in the organisation of the workshops and their learning tracks. This includes the SSC6 (Neuroanaesthesiology), SSC 7 (Cardo-Thoracic and Vascular), SSC 9 (Intensive care medicine), SSC 11 (Respiration and Airway Management) as well as the Patient Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC). In addition, SIMLAB is now part of the activities supported and proposed by the new ESAIC Simulation Committee which is chaired by Prof Doris Østergaard.

Q:  Who are some of the expert facilitators that will be assisting you with this year’s sessions?

A: Many instructors are renowned experts in simulation-based education and are members of the Simulation Committee such as Crina Burlacu from Ireland, Mette Lind Kristensen from Denmark and Ralf Krage from Nederland to name a few. Among the instructors will also be chairpersons of three different committees: Kemal Tolga Saraçoğlu (SSC11), Bernard Cholley (SSC 7), Daniel Arnal (PSQC), as well as many other world-renowned experts in the topics related to the procedural and high fidelity workshops.

Q: What are some of the scenarios you will be exploring with this year’s programme?

A: You always ask this! And I can’t answer precisely because otherwise the surprise effect for the participants in the high-fidelity scenarios will be lost! When I am in the operating room I can anticipate a lot of things, but I never really know what rare situations I might encounter…. More seriously, we will simulate various classic but challenging critical situations that can occur in the OR, ER or ICU.

Q: Obviously, such sessions cannot exist with the assistance of Euroanaesthesia’s many partners. Which of our partners have generously loaned us equipment and materials for this year’s sessions?

A: CAE Healthcare, Philips, and Getinge are our main partners and have worked with us since the beginning of SIMLAB at Euroanaesthesia 2017 in Geneva.
