Newsletter 2022

Newsletter August 2022: The CEEA, module 6, in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova

Natalia Belii, MD

After two years of COVID pandemics, and only 187 km from the Odessa frontline, the Moldavian Society of Anaesthesiologists (MSA) organized the 6th module of the course  (June 23-25, 2022) under the auspices of the European Committee for Education in Anaesthesiology (CEEA), this time with participants in the audience.

Despite the restrictions still imposed by the recent pandemics and the fragile geopolitical situation in the region, the MSA is permanently acting to maintain the academic atmosphere, so necessary for the development of our speciality in this country.

We are grateful for the permanent help and encouragement offered by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), which allowed us to invite well-known speakers from Romania, Israel, France, Great Britain and Switzerland to participate in this event.

Some 200 young anaesthesiologists from all over the country attended the course, which discussed the various aspects of perioperative medicine. Frontal lectures preceded a half-day of workshops on managing difficult airways and TIVA drugs, pharmacokinetic concepts, techniques and pumps. The post-test offered the organisers the chance to evaluate the quality of the lectures, and we were very glad to note the high percentage of correct answers.

Due to the ESAIC permanent support, we can disseminate among our members the modern standards and guidelines in the various domains of our speciality and thus improve patient care and safety.

In the last two decades, we have been offered the chance to send our representatives to the events organized by ESAIC, among them, the annual Euroanaesthesia, the International School for Instructors in Anaesthesiology (ISIA) and “Teach the teacher”.

Dr Ion Chesov, the President of MSA, Dr Diana Boleac, President of the CEEA Moldova-Regional and Prof. Serghei Sandru, chief of Anaesthesia at “Nicolae Testemiteanu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, join me in thanking the ESAIC committees and officers for their permanent help and efforts to support our activities in the aim of keeping the Moldavian Anaesthesiology standards at European level.

We do intend to go on and organise, besides the annual CEEA course, various scientific meetings, among them the traditional February “Ghereg days”, in the memory of the late Prof. Valeriu Ghereg, former president of MSA and one of the pioneers of our speciality in the Republic of Moldova.

We are also preparing for the 4th International Congress of MSA, to be held in Chisinau in September 2023.

This is a good opportunity to invite our European colleagues from all the countries to participate in this meeting and to enjoy the traditional hospitality of our people.
